UYMP house composer Robert Saxton has received exceptional reviews for his recent recording on Divine Art Métier(MSV 28639), featuring String Quartets Nos. 3 and 4, and the solo violin work Reflections in Time. The recording is performed by the Kreutzer Quartet and Peter Sheppard Skaerved, long-standing collaborators with Saxton.
The release has been highly praised in Fanfare, The Strad, and the British Music Society Journal.
“The string quartets are magnificent… A valuable, and astonishing, release; documentation of contemporary music as important as this is vital.”
— Fanfare, Colin Clarke
“A rewarding disc [that] makes a strong case for Saxton’s deeply lyrical, sometimes Tippettesque music… captivating, lovingly crafted music delivered in demonstrative, thoroughly persuasive performances.”
— The Strad, David Kettle
This recording showcases Saxton’s refined and expressive compositional voice, brought vividly to life through the Kreutzer Quartet’s precision and Sheppard Skaerved’s deeply committed performances.
