The world premiere of Ed Hughes' Strike Sketches, was presented at last year's BMIC Cutting Edge concert series by the New Music Players. The work features music from Hughes' film score for the Sergei Eisenstein film Strike!, which has just been released on a critically claimed Tartan DVD box set. The concert will be broadcast on Saturday December 15th at 10pm. Thomas Simaku's new work Insomnio for fifteen players was given its UK premiere by the Dutch Ensemble Insomnio conducted by Ulrich Pöhl at the recent Huddersfield Festival. Commissioned jointly by the Insomnio Ensemble and the Deutschlandfunk Radio, the work has already been broadcast on German radio, and will feature on Hear and Now on Saturday January 5th, again at 10pm. Both programmes will be available to listen to online on the Radio 3 website for 7 days after broadcast, as part of the 'listen again' feature.
