Cuatro Corridos performed as special event at Guadalajara International Book Fair 2015

In November, chamber opera Cuatro Corridos, which features Hilda Paredes' 2012 work La Tierra de la miel, was invited to perform as one of the special events at the Guadalajara International Book Fair in Mexico.

The event is the largest Spanish book fair in the world.

The performance coincided with the presentation of the opera's librettist and co-leader, Jorge Volpi's full-length novel based on the libretto of Cuatro Corridos, alongside a panel with discussions on international human rights issues.

Over one thousand people attended the performance at Guadalara’s Teatro Diana on November 30th, with several hundred remaining for a talk-back session after the performance.

Susan Narucki, soprano and co-leader of the opera, states:

"As Jorge, Pablo, and I fielded questions from the audience, I was grateful for the way in which Cuatro Corridos continues to spark conversation. Personally, it was my proudest moment in the two-and-a-half years of our project."

"Human trafficking is a global issue; during the past year instances of international and domestic trafficking continue to come to light. Yet, there is a growing awareness – a shared context for understanding the issue and the first step toward effecting meaningful change."

"I am pleased that Cuatro Corridos continues to be a part of that change."

Cuatro Corridos will next be performed at the University of California San Diego's Conrad Prebys Concert Hall on January 13th

Since the opera's premiere at the venue two and a half years ago, it has been performed a dozen times in eight different cities.
