UYMP is delighted that James Weeks’ Libro di fiammelle e ombre for 6 solo voices has been shortlisted by the BASCA 2018 awards, in the Chamber Ensemble category. Libro di fiammelle e ombre is a contribution to EXAUDI’s ongoing Italian Madrigal Book project and is a sequence of 12 very short madrigals using texts from Arcadelt’s Primo Libro de’ Madrigali (1539).
Weeks shortlisted by BASCA awards
21 November 2018The title, ‘Book of little flames and shadows’, explores the ‘poetry of sound in the sound of poetry’ – the close union of text and music idealised by the early madrigal pioneers. The work was premiered at the Wigmore Hall by EXAUDI ensemble, conducted by James Weeks, on 1st April 2017. We wish James every success for the final stage of the awards, which will be announced in a ceremony at the British Museum, on the evening of Tuesday 4th December 2018.
