Tinoco 'Archipelago' CD on Luxembourg radio's 'CD-Klassik'
Luis Tinoco's wonderful new CD on Odradek Records with the Drumming Grupo de Percussão was introduced on Luxembourg radio's 'CD-Klassik' yesterday and today, 12th and 13th December 2019. A new CD of Thomas Simaku’s chamber music, performed by internationally renowned musicians, is being released today, 6th November 2020, on the prestigious Swedish label BIS Records. Professor Thomas Simaku has collaborated with the Paris-based Quatuor Diotima for more than a decade and his collaboration with the British pianist Joseph Houston, now based in Berlin, began when Houston was an undergraduate at York.
UYMP is absolutely delighted to announce that Sadie Harrison has been awarded a substantial Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grant for a 2 year project entitled ‘PASTURE & STORM’ ('New Music for the Single-Handed Pianist'). Over the next year, Sadie will be writing eight new works for the internationally renowned virtuoso left-handed pianist Nicholas McCarthy, Sophia Benton (a former pupil currently studying as a single-handed pianist at Welsh College of Music and Drama), singer Peyee Chen and the Bristol Ensemble conducted by John Pickard.
Luís Tinoco’s ‘Archipelago’ CD, on ODRADEK ODRCD398 has received an excellent review in Music Web International. The reviewer Glyn Pursglove reminds us that Tinoco has established himself as one of Portugal’s leading contemporary composers, has worked intermittently with the Drumming Group de Percussão over a number of years and that the disc marks the percussion ensemble’s 20th anniversary in 2019, as well as a milestone birthday for Tinoco himself!
The violinist Glen Sheldon has been doing a series of informal Zoom concerts of solo violin repertoire during the various lockdowns. He is delighted to have re-established contact with Sadie Harrison, with whom he studied and performed at Surrey University, and in his next programme he will include a short selection from her Gallery (Room 1) and Gallery (Room 2) pieces, including a world premiere of Meditation, written especially for Glen during the lockdown period
Thomas Simaku’s CD, Solos & Duos, released on Naxos Records in 2019, has been chosen among the ten best CDs of the year by the critic James H. North in the prestigious magazine Fanfare in the USA. The list includes recordings of works by Beethoven and Bartok, as well as two 21st century composers from the Netherlands and USA.
