• UYMP launches new opportunity for early career composers

  

  The Early Career Composers Cooperative is a free professional development opportunity for composers based in the north of England and in the early stages of their career (composers who are not in, or have recently left, education). If you are a composer meeting these criteria, this project is for you!

  Composers are invited to attend the first meeting on Saturday 22nd June: a day of sharing and networking, through workshops and discussions facilitated by Peter Wiegold (Club Inégales, Institute of Composing).

  The project is supported generously by The Mayfield Valley Arts Trust.

• Thomas Simaku at the 2019 World Music Days

  

  Thomas Simaku’s work La Leggiadra Luna was performed at the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) – World Music Days in Tallinn on 4 May 2019. Composed for mixed choir a cappella, this work is a setting of Sappho’s poem translated from ancient Greek into modern Italian by the Nobel Prize-winning Sicilian poet Salvatore Quasimodo.

  Performed by a Grammy Award-winning ensemble and broadcast live, the programme was transferred across Europe through the European Broadcasting Union.

• Live recording of Frederick Viner's 'Justorum Animae'

  

  Frederick Viner's Justorum Animae received a second performance on 21st March 2019 by the Chapel Choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge, conducted by Michael Bawtree. The choir performed the work at a concert titled 'Music of Our Time' arranged by the John Armitage Memorial Trust (JAM) at St Bride's Church, London. A live recording of their performance is now available to listen to online:

• Tomáš Klement records Sadie Harrison’s ‘..sláva hvězd..’ for Czech Radio 3

  

  Sadie Harrison’s piano cycle ..sláva hvězd.. (The Glory of Stars) has been recorded for Czech Radio 3 by the outstanding young pianist, Tomáš Klement. Klement gave the work its world premiere at the spectacular Tugendhat Villa in Brno, Czech Republic, on 8th April 2019.

• BBC Radio 3 broadcast James Weeks conducting 'Orlando Tenebrae'

  

  As part of a 'BBC Singers in Good Friday music' programme broadcast on 24th April, BBC Radio 3 featured a recording of James Weeks's Orlando Tenebrae from a concert by the choir conducted by the composer himself.
