Many congratulations to UYMP composer Hilda Paredes, whose moving opera Harriet, with libretto by Lex Bohlmeijer and Mayra Santos-Febres, has been honoured with a residency award in the 5th edition of the Music Theatre NOW Worldwide Competition for Music Theatre and new Opera. Harriet has been selected in the category MTNow 2021 Residencies, in collaboration with Residency Program by the City of Munich (and Meta Theatre Munich). MTNow presents the competition in collaboration with the International Theatre Institute and O. Festival for Opera/Music/Theatre, with the support of ITI The Netherlands.

MTNow writes: ‘Operas and music theatre of various forms, works made for large and intimate venues, which are aesthetically innovative and reflect new developments in this genre from the various corners of the world, have been chosen.’ Music Theatre NOW has welcomed more than 150 projects from over 30 countries in this 5th edition, in challenging times for artists worldwide and reports that ‘Beside works exploring new grounds in the traditional environment of a stage more and more projects were – naturally – developed for different digital and live settings, which shows the enormous diversity and future potential of the genre as melting pot of various artistic expressions.’
