    Simaku - Copenhagen Sinfonietta Première

    Thomas Simaku's work Réflexions de la Croix III was given its world première by Peter Sheppard Skaerved and the Athelas Sinfonietta, conducted by Franz Rasmussen, on 30 April 2005 at Den Sorte Diamant Hall in Copenhagen.

    International Success for York Composer

    Thomas Simaku visited Switzerland for the performance of his String Quartet No 2 at the ISCM - World New Music Days Festival, which took place from 3rd to 12th November 2004. The Arditti Quartet, the world's leading ensemble of contemporary music, performed his piece on 10th November, with great success.

    Simaku awarded second prize in Lutoslawski Award 2004

    Thomas Simaku has been awarded the second prize of the prestigious Lutoslawski Award 2004. His piece 'Voci Celesti per Quartetto d'Archi' was selected from works submitted by 157 candidates from all over the world.

    Hyllus World Première

    Thomas Simaku's new work for orchestra Hyllus has been selected by the International Jury for the ISCM - World Music Days / Zagreb Biennale 2005. The world première will be given by the Slovenian Radio-Television Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sian Edwards on 21 April at the Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb.

    UCTV Premiere for Stars

    Anthony Gilbert's Stars (after M.C. Escher) for recorder and guitar will be given its US premiere on UCTV. UCTV will be broadcasting one-hour selections from the "New Dimensions in Classical Guitar" beginning on February 14th (first prime time airing in California will be on February 19 at 8pm Pacific Time).

    Trevor Wishart - guest professor in Berlin

    Trevor Wishart has recently been Edgard Varese Guest Professor at the Technical University in Berlin, where he completed the new 29 minute piece Globalalia ("Globalalia: The universal dance of human speech as revealed in 20 tales from everywhere, spoken in tongues."), commissioned by Folkmar Hein on the occasion of his 60th birthday, and premiered in the Sophiensalle, Berlin, as part of the Inventionen 2004 Festival.
