NMC to Release CDs of Lutyens and Sadie Harrison

NMC Records are set to release two new discs of music by UYMP composers over the coming 12 months.

As we go to print, the extraordinary vocal ensemble Exaudi and the chamber group Endymion are in the studio recording choral and chamber music works by Elisabeth Lutyens. The disc of Lutyens, featuring many pieces that have never been recorded before, will be released in September on NMC D124 in celebration of her centenary this year. It will include musical gems such as Présages for solo oboe, recorded by Melinda Maxwell, and the Fantasie Trio Op. 55 for flute, clarinet and piano. Amongst the choral works will be the notorious, but wonderful, masterpiece of serial vocal writing, the Excerpta tractus-logico philosophici - better known as the Wittgenstein Motet, written in 1952. Lutyens will also be the BBC Radio 3 Composer of the Week in the week beginning July 10th 2006, in celebration of her centenary.

Spring 2007 will see NMC release a disc of music by Sadie Harrison titled An Unexpected Light on catalogue number NMC D125. The recordings will include some major works by Harrison: the Violin Concerto of the same title, the piano trio A Bride's Journey and two violin and piano duos an angel reads my open book... and A Hidden Light. The disc features performers with whom Harrison has built strong working relationships, such as the violinist Rusne Mataityte, the St Christopherus Chamber Orchestra of Vilnius (conducted by Donatus Katkus), the Kaskados Piano Trio and the pianist Sergey Okrushko. Upon release, both discs will be available to buy on the NMC website, www.nmcrec.co.uk.
