In the coming year, two concerts devoted to the work of Kondo will take place: New York 20 March and Tokyo 7 October.
Jo Kondo - Celebrations in Tokyo and New York
1 March 2004Kondo, one of Japan's leading composers, will supervise the performance of his elegant chamber works performed at the Cooper Arts Festival at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City. Japan's Suntory Music Foundation in Tokyo will perform a newly-commissioned work by Kondo, together with three of his existing orchestral works: A Shape of Time, In the Woods and Mulberry. Kondo has described his artistic aesthetic as one where he is "interested in words more than in sentences, in sentences, more than in paragraphs, in paragraphs more than in a whole page. Thus, it could be said that in music I am more concerned with each sound than with the phrases they create."
