Evis Sammoutis has been elected for a two year term as a member of the IMC Executive Board. He took up the position during the 36th General Assembly that took place in Rabat, Morocco on 12th November.

The International Music Council (IMC) was founded in 1949 at the request of the Director-General of UNESCO as a non-governmental advisory body to the agency on musical matters.

It is the world's largest network of organisations and institutions working in the field of music, with direct access to over 1,000 organisations in 150 countries.

The new Executive Board* will serve until the 37th General Assembly in 2017. More information about the General Assembly can be found here

Sammoutis has also been selected to participate at an ISCM Festival for the fifth time.

On 30th March 2016, the Gaia String Quartet will perform his string quartet Rhymes at the ISCM World New Music Days, taking place at TongYeong, Republic of Korea.

Sammoutis was born in Cyprus in 1979 and by the age of sixteen, he had already obtained both the LRSM and the Performance and Teaching Diploma with distinction before moving to England in 1998 for university studies.

Upon graduation from the University of Hull with a first class degree (BMus) in all disciplines and the Departmental Prize, he completed his PhD studies in Musical Composition at the University of York under the supervision of Dr Thomas Simaku.
