Ensemble Aark, one of Australia's leading chamber ensembles, will be giving the Australian premiere of Sadie Harrison's acclaimed trilogy The Light Garden on 11 November 2005. The event will be a portrait of Harrison's work and will take place in the Sydney Conservatorium as part of the New Music Network Festival 2005. The trilogy comprises The Light Garden for mixed quintet, The Fourteenth Terrace, a concerto for clarinet and ensemble, and the virtuosic violin solo Bavad Khair Baqi! The set is based on the culture of 17th century Afghanistan and in particular the spectacular gardens built by Shah Jahan in 1640. The works are available on Metier Records, performed by Lontano, Andrew Sparling (clarinet), the Tate Ensemble and Peter Sheppard Skaerved (violin), interspersed with traditional Afghan music performed by Ensemble Bakhtar.
