Description

Commissioned by Thalia Myers for the ABRSM Spectrum Series.

Százhalombatta is a spectacular Bronze Age site on the banks of the Danube in Hungary. It is overflowing with artefacts, particularly pots. Fire-clouding refers to the reaction of clay in kilns where changes in oxygen levels create splashes of colour. It also relates to the incredible thunderstorms that sweep in from the Carpathian Mountains, transforming skies from brightest blue to pitch black in seconds. This little piece is dedicated to Jo Sofaer, archaeologist and teacher.
