Leslie studied Musicology at King’s College in London and went on to complete a Masters in Music Analysis.

After working as a teacher and music journalist, Leslie was appointed as the Director of Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as well as Publishing Director of the Novello music publishing company.

In 1999, Leslie became the Publishing Director at ABRSM (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) and then Executive Director of Syllabus and Publishing in 2007.

After moving onto Chief Executive of ABRSM in 2013, Leslie became Chair of ABCD (Association of British Choral Directors) in January 2015.

In December 2014, Leslie was honoured by the Music Publishers Association and was presented with their prestigious Gold Badge.

In an interview with Choir and Organ Magazine, Leslie said:

“One of the greatest pleasures in my life has been singing in and conducting choirs... in professional life, choirs have always played a part - the joy of seeing John Alldis in action with the Guildhall School Chamber Choir, creating new editions of great choral works for Novello, and running an office choir of 25 singers at ABRSM.”
