Two new works by Thomas Simaku, inspired by and setting English twentieth century poetry, will be premiered this month.
Simaku Premieres in Hong Kong and York
12 March 2013Solar for Violin, Trumpet and Piano, based on Philip Larkin's poem of the same title, will receive its premiere at the Chinese University of Hong Kong on 14th March 2013. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-humber-21725801 Simaku writes, 'Having previously composed two other works - Plenilunio and Raggio Lunare - which 'hover on the same sonic orbit', as it were, this particular poem immediately struck a chord with me ... poetic images, such as 'how still you stand', 'continuously exploding', and 'there among lonely horizontals', called for specific sound images within an overall static canvas of constantly proliferating sonorities.' Another new piece, Clocks and Times, setting the poem by Ursula Vaughan Williams, will receive its world premiere by Robert Rice and William Vann in York Unitarian Chapel on 6th April 2013, as part of the Late Music Concert Series.
