Saxton at PLG Young Artists 2015 Series

UYMP congratulates Robert Saxton on his selection as the featured composer of the first concert in the PLG Young Artists New Year Series 2015. 

The five concerts will be launched on Monday 5th January, by a pre-concert conversation between Thomas Hyde and Robert Saxton, at 6.15pm in the Purcell Room. Saxton's works Brise Marine for soprano, piano and tape, The beach in winter: Scratby [for Tess] for baritone and piano and Piano Sonata (in memoriam Béla Bartók) will be discussed. Extracts will be performed by soprano Susanna Fairbairn and pianists Matthew Schellhorn and Imma Setiadi. The 7.45pm concert presents Saxton's String Quartet No. 3 and Hortus Musicae for solo piano, around which are programmed Thomas Hyde's String Quartet and works for solo piano by Robin Holloway, György Kurtág, and Thomas Adès. The performers are Maxwell String Quartet and Gamal Khamis (piano). Other featured composers are David Matthews, Joseph Horovitz, Paul Patterson and Krzysztof Penderecki.
