Jo Kondo — new CD

A new CD of Kondo's opera Hagoromo will be released in late September by an American record company, CP2 (catalogue no. CP2-117). The performers on the CD are: Teresa Shaw (mezzo), Tomoko Shiota (narration), Sebastian Bell (solo flute), Paul Zukofsy (conductor), the London Sinfonietta and London Sinfonietta Voices. Of the UK Premiere of Hagoromo, Ed Hughes wrote that Kondo's interest in the balance between form and gesture is reminiscent of 'Noh theatre... yet even in an opera as theatrical and dramatic as tonight's premiere, Hagoromo, every single gesture and line is clear, precise and there to be heard — and always placed within a slowly evolving music of contrasts.'
