Kettle's Yard celebrates Dale Roberts' 80th

Kettle's Yard is featuring the music of Jeremy Dale Roberts, in celebration of his 80th birthday. Richard Causton, Kettle's Yard New Music Associate, has chosen the programmes for the return of the New Music Sunday Concert series, in which there is a theme of 'lineage'.
Composers' works will be performed alongside those of their teachers. Italian music from the 20th century will also be presented and there are strong links with the visual arts, including the Kettle's Yard collection. The 2nd March concert starts with a pre-concert talk by Jeremy Dale Roberts, at 11.30am. Hiro Takenouchi will play works for piano, including Dale Roberts' homage to the Italian artist Georgio Morandi, Oggetti: omaggio a Morandi, alongside music by Morandi's contemporary Luigi Dallapiccola. Dale Roberts' Capriccio will be performed on 27th April, in tandem with his teacher Priaulx Rainier's Elegy, by Peter Sheppard Skaerved (violin) and Roderick Chadwick (piano). Dale Roberts' recently written String Quintet, which featured on BBC Radio 3's Hear and Now and which premiere by the Kreutzer quartet and Bridget MacRae in May 2013 received a glowing review by Paul Conway in the October Tempo, is to be performed again on 25th May by MacRae and the Kreutzer, alongside Rainier's String Quartet. The Quintet is paired in a programme with Janácek's Intimate Letters, having been inspired by Janácek, as well as by Rainier, Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse, Marina Tsvetaeva's poetry and Edvard Munch's Frieze of Life paintings. All concerts will begin at 12.15pm, with coffee served in the gallery from 11.45am. Further information and online booking
