Hilda Paredes appointed as Jean Macduff Vaux Composer-in-Residence at Mills College

Hilda Paredes is returning to Mills College, California in February, for a week-long residency as the Jean Macduff Vaux Composer-in-Residence.

She will also present a concert of her music.

Taking place on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Littlefield Concert Hall in Oakland, California, the concert includes the following works by Paredes:

Páramo de voces (Kate Campbell, piano.)
Permutaciones (Hrabba Atladottir, violin.)
Paráfrasis (Weston Olencki, trombone.)
Alegoría Tri-partita (Kate Campbell, piano; Hrabba Atladottir, violin; Gianna Abondolo, cello.)
Tlapitzalli 2 for flute and percussion (Joanna Martin, flute; William Winant, percussion.)

In 2007, Paredes was appointed the Darius Milhuad Visiting Professor at Mills College.

The college’s Music Department has at least one visiting composer in residence every year, with American composer Lou Harrison being the first in 1998-99.

For more than 50 years, the Mills College Music Department has been internationally renowned in the field of contemporary music.

Firmly established as one of the leading Mexican composers of her generation, Hilda Paredes has made her home in London since 1979 and her music is now performed widely around the world.
