Evis Sammoutis elected to AEC Council
24 November 2014
The election took place at the AEC Annual Congress and General Assembly, held at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest on 13-15th November 2014. Sammoutis received votes from 60% of the electorate, which consisted of representatives of key European institutions.
Established in 1953, the AEC Council is a European cultural and educational network with over 300 member institutions for professional music in 57 countries; it is one of the most important organizations for the performing arts worldwide.
The Council comprises twelve representatives from member institutions and represents all AEC institutions; members elect these representatives for 3-year terms of office during the Association's annual General Assembly. This is the first time that a Cypriot representative has been elected for a position in the AEC Council.
AEC provides support to specialist institutions offering Higher Music Education, through engaging in advocacy and partnership-building at European and international levels, and through measures to raise understanding and enhance standards of Higher Music Education across the European higher education domain and beyond.
