'Differences in Demolition' in Vienna and Srebrenica

Nigel Osborne's opera Differences in Demolition, subtitle A Sevdah Opera, with libretto by Goran Simic, was toured in December by Opera Circus under the artistic directorship of Tina Ellen-Lee.

Performances were given at the Hofburg Palace, Vienna and at the Dom Kulture, Srebrenica. These performances were hosted by the Ambassadors of Kazakhstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria and the United Kingdom with the aim of highlighting the longstanding work of the OSCE in Bosnia and Herzegovina and stressing the continued importance of supporting initiatives for peace and reconciliation in the Western Balkans. Support was given by the British Council. The performances formed a part of the worldwide celebrations for International Human Rights Day on December 10th 2010, which marked the 62nd anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the UN General Assembly. Differences in Demolition is a British/Bosnian partnership and the world premiere was staged at the National Theatre in Mostar on 9 June 2007 followed by a tour of the National Theatres in Sarajevo, Tuzla, Banja Luka and Zenica. The opera has since been performed in London and Scotland, to great acclaim.
